NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. It’s psychological technology that helps people to change their lives from a troubled state to a desired state, and also create excellence in any aspect of life.Neuro refers to nervous system or brain, linguistics is for language and programming is installation of a program or plan. It is programming of our mind using language to achieve what we want in life. We can analogise it to the programming in a computer. We can do programming in our bio-computer as well.
In our brain, our experiences are processed, coded and stored just like a software or programs in a computer. These software’s determine our thinking and behaviour. By deleting or upgrading our mental software, we can make changes to our life. For example, if you donor like what you are today or what is happening in your life or do not have whatever you want, it’s because your path is blocked by an issue or a problem- it could be a limiting belief or disempowering habit. NLP can uncover this program running in your mind, help you to delete it and reprogram it to create your desired state.
NLP deals with the structure of human experiences. Using the structure of how we experience the world, the founders of NLP Richard Bandlar and John Grinder, developed a set of principles, tools, techniques and strategies that can change people’s lives to the way they want.
Today we live in an age of information explosion, confusion and imbalance. All around us we see people suffer from endless issues created by their negative thoughts and damaging emotions like anger, guilt, hatred, fear, anxiety, sadness, depression, conflicts, stress, lack of confidence, low self-esteem, lack of motivation, fear of failure, phobias, traumas caused by shocking experiences such as abuse, rape, accidents etc., and destructive habits like smoking, drinking alcohol, drug abuse, gambling, procrastination etc. Almost all these issues stem from the negative programs running in our brain. How does it happen…?
Every moment of our life we are programming our mind either with good or bad. Unbelievable… isn’t it? How does it happen! We can find out…. Stop for a moment… close your eyes. Turn inward… and pay attention to what’s going on there…be there for a couple of minutes and watch….. Did you hear the endless chatter….like a commentary…. about your life… your feelings…about others in your life… how they have hurt you…how you can you get it back to them in the same coin or worse…! For most people this self-talk is very negative…self-destructive limiting and self-defeating…. And as you go on indulging in self pity telling yourself that you’re not worthy…not good enough…not capable like others… no one likes me …I am lonely… I hate my work etc…it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
Even though we’re not doing this self sabotage consciously they unconsciously become reality of our life. Remember what Lord Buddha said… “We’re are what we think, and with our thoughts we make our world.” These thoughts can destroy us mentally, physically and emotionally… it can even kill us. Many decide to take their lives when the can’t handle their thoughts!
Is there a way out from this most dangerous and scary situation… ! Yes… there is! NLP is an answer to most of our problems! It recognises the mind-body connection, and the power of our unconscious mind. 70- 80% of diseases we find today are psychosomatic. Psycho means mind and soma is body. That means the cause of these problems is in the mind and the effect id in the body.
Until recently, the majority of the world believed that the mind is in the brain. Actually brain is the functional part of the mind. It was only in 1997 that Dr. Candace Pert proved that there’s a mind in every cell of our body, and these cells carry good or bad memories, and suppressed unresolved emotions. Otis these deep rooted unresolved negative emotions manifest as diseases. People suffer from all kinds of illnesses such as migraine, headache, allergies, anxiety, depression, cancer etc.etc. They are all treated for their symptoms while the root cause is in the mind…that is in our unconscious mind.
To remove the the root cause we need to access our unconscious mind where all these are stored. Our unconscious mind has all our problems, our resources, solutions to all our problems, answer to all our questions, it is the seat of our emotions and store house of our good and bad memories. All learning and all winning happen there. It has all wisdom and is the blueprint of our health….and all healing happens there. NLP has skills, techniques and strategies to help us access our our unconscious, reach to the root cause of these problems, remove them, and reprogram our mind positively for health, peace, happiness and success!
NLP can help everyone irrespective of age. It emphasises that every one has all the resources needed to succeed in life. It is when we are not sure of ourselves, we feel we are not capable, we are not good enough or we’re smart enough etc. It is then NLP helps to look into ourselves, realise our potential, take responsibility for change, act upon it, and take charge of our life. Another important principle of NLP is, “If what you are doing is not working, do something else.”. Spencer Johnson in his best selling book, “Who moved the cheese”’ points out the difference between humans and rats. If rats discover what they are doing is not working… they try something else. If humans discover what they are doing is not working they look for someone else to blame for it.
In order to succeed, NLP advises us to take ownership of your life, and Be at the Cause. If you are responsible for your present situation, it means you have the power to create, and that in turn means you have the power to change and recreate. On the other hand if you blame others and your circumstances for your present situation, you are giving power to create your life for you…!
THEREFORE ALWAYS BE THE CAUSE NOT AT THE EFFECT
